1. Explain how to get to the server drives and your folder:
double click on the servers drive, click on my computer, jstudent(T:), photojournalism, your class period, find name.
2. Explain how we use blogger.com in this class:
We put up thing we like and out ideas for others to read
3. Explain the process of creating a pinhole camera:
Things you need:
oatmeal container, construction paper, black tape, scissors, a sewing pin, a blade, glue, and foil
The inside of the oatmeal box should be completely dark so you will have to cover it with construction paper and black tape. The mouth of the cap should also be covered so no light comes in. Then in the middle of the top and the bottom make a small cut in shape of a box with the blade and put foil in the inside of it to cover it up. Make a hole with the sewing pin and cover it with a flap of tape so no light comes in. make sure that it is covered good and doesn't open or light will come in and ruin the picture.
4. Explain how the pinhole camera works and how the image is transferred to the paper inside:
When you open the flap the light is being captured through the hole and into the picture sheet and depending of how long you leave the flap open your picture will come out very dark or very light.
5. Know how to define and explain the 10 rules of composition, these 10 rules will be a MAJOR portion of the final and you better know how to recognize these rules, explain these rules and show me you understand them:
5a. Rule of thirds:
5b. Balancing Elements
5c. Leading Lines
5d. Symmetry and Patterns (repetition)
5e. Viewpoint
5f. Background/simplicity
5g. Create depth
5h. Framing
5i. Cropping
5j. Mergers and avoiding them
6. Explain how action and emotion impact a photograph
7. Explain how a photo can "tell a story"

Yearbook: Publishes the Aerie which is worked on throughout the year and publishes sometime in May each year. The book is about 200 pages long and students in the class are responsible for the creation of two-page spreads. You will learn more about these "spreads" next semester where we will create some together. Students are responsible for all the content on their spread, including taking pictures, writing captions, headlines and some years writing a short story. There is typically a little room for creativity with a portion of the spread, but most of the lay-out and design is done ahead of time by a group of editors selected towards the end of the school year. Much of that work is done during the summer or very early in the school year by a dedicated group of editors. Most of these people are picked in advance and have been in the program for multiple years. It is possible that next year, yearbook I students will be in their own class and will work on the book at a slightly slower pace, while yearbook II and internship/independent study students will be in their own class working on more of the book. The book covers all areas of the school but because of the publication date, its more of a summary of the year. The yearbook class is taught by Mr. Doerr.
I would like to be in yearbook next year if i could, even though i know i won't because i am in a different academy and yearbook isn't one of their electives I think that it would be a very fun and good experience and i would love to have the opportunity to take pictures of people and things going on during the year for other people to see and enjoy. Newspaper sounds interesting but i want a hands on experience taking pictures more than writing about the things.
Second: I would like you to go to the following websites and look at various publications from around the United States. Pick one yearbook spread that you think is cool looking and link it on your blog and pick one on-line newspaper that you think looks cool and link it on your blog.

Abandoned Theme Parks(not done)
1. I would like to go to Takakanonuma Greenland in Hobara, Japan it looks like a very good place to take some good photographs of old things. I think that i like that it's an older park and its in the middle of many trees. The way that the front pictures look makes me think that pictures would come out good from many angles from far away. Also the roller coasters are very rusty and give it an antiqueish look.
3.
-Old caves
-"Haunted houses"
-Fields
-Rome
-Ruins of Pompeii
4.
5. I thought this place looked very beautiful and its a place i would like to explore and take pictures of. The looks of the mountains in the back ground and the way that the floor looks with all the grass covering the rocks is very amazing looking and i think that is something that caught my eye. The way that the old walls are falling and the grass growing over and around them, also how inside every thing looks very clean and dry when the outside looks so alive.
6. Tell me what it would take for you to go and take photos at your location. What would you need as far as equipment goes, travel plans, expenses you might encounter and what laws you would have to take into consideration to take photos at your spot.

Portraits and self-portraits - start looking
A good photo has to be something i understand. The colors don't have to be a specific just for the tone to go along with the mood of the picture, like if you have a sad girl you would use dark colors and not bright yellow or pink. Also the background is always something that catches my attention in pictures, if i don't like the back ground then most likely i won't like the picture. So to me a good picture will be one with many things going on like the first picture on here or something very calm like the second picture i have.
I'm going to take portraits of someone else for my 12 frames.

Photo Manipulation and ethics
1. There are many photographers that use Adobe photoshop and similar programs to change photos and make them more interesting to the public. In many places these things are used very much like in the Middle East, they manipulate their photos and in the U.S. many photographers are being fired because of the way that they change their pictures.
2. I believe that photo editing is unethical because it is wrong to change the nature of something to make it look better and interesting.
A. I think this picture is the most unethical because Bill Clinton and Fidel Castro were photoshoped to be greeting each other as if they were taken a picture of, when really there were no photographers around.
B. For some reason it won't let me post up the photo but i think that the least unethical is the one with Newsweek gives Mama McCaughey a tooth job because that isn't too much of importance and it actually fixes her to look better in public.

Drug Cartels in Mexico
The pictures of drug wars in mexico is something that s iimpacting it very much. He is trying to make a point about how many people are dying from this very rapidly. Things don't seem to get better and i think that if the people doing this should be cought for many people get shot, stabbed and all that. For drug dealers lives of people are being taken as a joke and the money they have is being used for drugs.

Ethics in fashion photography
1. List the changes that were made to the model's face in the computer. (Look carefully)
Her eye were widen, her neck was stretched, her hair was fixed, her lips were fixed, they changed the thickness of her neck and changed the color on her face.
2. Is it ethically acceptable to change a person's appearance like this in a photo? Why or why not?
No, because they should be them self and not try to be another.
3. Are there circumstances in which it would be more ethically wrong to do this type of manipulation?
Yes there is.
4. What types of changes are OK, and what aren't?
Changes in hair and make up are okay, and body disfiguration isn't.
5. Explain what you think the differences are between fashion photography and photojournalism.
Fashion photography focuses more on models and fake beauty and photojournalism is more about the nature of people and the real world.
6. What relationship does each type of photography have to reality, and how does this affect the ethical practice of each?
photography is picking reality and putting in on a piece of paper.

Negatives Evaluation
1. From looking at your negatives, how many of your photos do you think turned out well?
8 of my photos came out well.
3 of the pictures didn't come out well.
One did not have enough light and one had too much. And one of the pictures wasn't focused rite.
I took these picture because it represents a boy preparing for his science project.

American Soldier slideshow and captions
The most powerful picture is the first one. It just shows that he is gonna sign up for it and the expression on his face is very serious.
I think that the most powerful pictures would be the ones where he is with his family and when he is saying bye to go back to Iraq. Their the strongest ones because they show him having fun and in others he is crying, so is his family and friends.
The images show him from before he leaves to after he comes back and everything that happens between.
3. Click on the "i" button on the upper right side of the photos to see the captions.
A. For the photos in which Ian is the main subject of the photos, in what tense are the verbs usually written?
Present tense
B. How do the captions enhance the photographs?
They tell the story and what happening at that point in the picture.
Chapter 1, 8th picutre:
Ian is at his moms new place looking through some old pictures of him when he was younger. He shares these memories with Buddha and his mom and they are having a good time talking about the times he played baseball and all the good memories.
Chapter 2, 12th picture:
Ian is sitting in a meeting room with all of the soldiers butt is looking down because he feels alone and distanced from the rest.
Chapter 7, 17th picture:
Their all in a small room with white walls and everyone is having a good time. Ian is on the side laughing at the guy in the middle who seems to be dancing.

PIEA Photo Contest
I guess i find this picture inspiring because of the way it looks, I don't understand it completely but i love the way that on the right side there seems to be a piece of space and gases. It seems to be coming out from the cake that is set for the old man to eat. Its just so awesome from my point of view, he seems so calmed and happy. The tattoos on his chest stand out because everything in the background is dark and there's a small amount of light in the front of him and that's how you see them and they stand out.

Marlboro Marine
Luis Sinco uses Music and the own experience he went through with Blake, this causes the listener to have more emotion. He also uses good texts every once in a while to explain what is going on, and it's the mist important points.
This slideshow made me think different about people that come from war. I use to think that they felt great thinking they were hero's because they fought for their country but instead they have all these memories that haunt them and make them feel bad about them selfs and still living. I think that the effect is pretty major towards people because they learn to not just celebrate the return but to care about how they are doing and if they need help to overcome the traumas.
The most powerful image is the one of Blake smoking the cigar.
The ones of his where he looks sad, shows the emotion and things he is going through.
The audio puts more emotion into the pictures.
It shows his life and the things that happened. Like what he saw in Iraq, when he got married, when he left to the program, when he came back and had problems with his wife, his new friends, and in the end how things ended.

Great white and black photographers, part 3
The thing that caught my eye would be the way he captures the peoples faces and the way he has them posed. There is something in particularly that made his photos interesting and that would be that most of his pictures he has the people dressed in a certain way or doing something weird.
I'm standing next to a thin woman. I'm watching her smoke a cigar. Shes of an upper class i can tell by her coat and jewelry. She's in love with her self, her looks tell it all. The aroma of her fancy perfume is all in the room. I can smell it perfectly as she poses for the pictures. I can smell the cigar she is holding in her hand too. I hear her breathing out the smoke of the cigar. I can taste the perfume and cigar because of the strong smell it has. I don't like the mix of aromas it gives me a headache. I reach over and feel her coat. Its soft and fuzzy like a small puppy. Then i touch her hat, its just like her coat, soft.
I see her laying on the bed undressed. I watch as she reaches over to turn the alarm off to stop it from ringing any longer. She looks tired and her hat covers her messy hair. Theres a cup of wine on the table next to her that she almost dropped when turning the alarm off. The smell in the room is that off morning air. I can smell the strong wine in the cup too. I hear her turning her self in the sheets. I hear the alarm as she hasn't yet turned it off. I feel her skin its warm and soft. The blankets are soft too.

Great white and black photographers, part 2
William Klein
William Klein was part of a family of poor Jewish immigrants, born in New York in 1928. He lived in a neighborhood surrounded by Irish which caused him to be picked on and was discriminated much by them. Friends described him as a bright sarcastic boy who liked art and the humanities. He was very smart that at the age of 14 he enrolled at city college of New York to study sociology. Then when he was 18 he was in the US army for 2 years and spent them in Germany and France. In 1948 he enrolled at the 'sorbonne' in Paris and 1949, klein studied briefly with lhote and fernand leger. Married Jeanne Florin and lived in France and still lives and works in Paris. His use of high-grain film and wide angles shocked the established order of the photography world and he arned a reputation as an anti-photographer's photographer. In 1954 he returned to New York and decided to photograph New York in a new way, a kind of photographic diary. He got a contract as a fashion photographer for the magazines. He took his work back to Paris and hmanaged to find a french publisher, editions seuil, who believed in it and brought it out in 1956 (re-issued 1995). It was also published in Italy the same year Klein's book won the nadar prize. From 1955 to 1965 he worked for Vogue. From 1965 to the early early 80's he abandoned photography and primarily concentrated on film, made various documentaries like broadway by light in 1958, who are you polly maggoo in 1966 and a couple more. He returned to photography in the 1980s due to a renewed interest in his early work this period is characterized by his use of close-ups and wide angle lenses. In the 90s he received the hasselblad prize and various retrospectives of his films were organized in New York and Japan. In 1997 he rephotographed new
york and had shows in barcellona and Paris, then in 1999 he was awarded the 'medal of the century' by the royal photographic society' in London. He has had some solo exhibitions from 1997 to 2000 all over the world.

Action and Emotion
There's happiness in this picture between the young girl and the young man holding her, she seems to be smiling and he's holding her in a very caring way which gives the audience the feeling or emotion of "aww".
Best Story
You can make so many stories from this picture. I imagine a young girl that is researching the skeleton and is very interested on what she is doing.
Filling the frame
This picture is very interesting, the guy playing the guitar and singing. A guy besides him playing another guitar. There's another guy to the side doing the same. On the background there's a light and everything looks black.

-You can see the toy in the middle of the positive picture more than on the negative one
-Theres a black dot on the left side of the negative picture and its doesn't show on the positive picture
My negative picture turned from white to black and it flipped.
Negative: noting an image in which the brightness values of the subject are reproduced so that the lightest areas are shown as the darkest.

I like this picture very much because It shows a dog and it seems to be a small child's foot. I like how the background shows some plants an a couple of clouds spread around. You see the shadows of the dogs foot and a small yellow spot of light by the child's foot. There's absolutely no blur in this picture and i took it makes it look really good. I wouldn't say the picture is warped just maybe the flood looks a bit bent, but in all i really like this photograph.
I don't like this picture at all. The lighting is bad and there's a blur at the bottom and i just don't like. It's a roll of toilet paper that just doesn't catch my attention. It's not warped and maybe if it was bent in some way it would give it a better look but just like this is no good for me.

This picture caught my attention because the whole picture is focused on this girls face. I also like how the smile is cut off at the bottom which gives the picture a weird look, she seems to be surprised or happy. Then in the background there seems to be books or a book shelf but they are blurred out.
This picture is way too blurry and isn't focusing on anything. I don't like how it looks at all like its not a good setting either.
